Keeping the Balance

Our daily lives take a lot of turns and twists. Hectic work schedules. Child care: camps, play time, reading time, and crafts. Maintaining the house (laundry, dishes, paying bills, cleaning) and yard (cutting grass, weeding, mulching, planting, pruning). Errands, grocery shopping, car maintenance, dentist visits, medical visits and more. The list goes on and on. And, then there is someone always writing or reminding you to fit exercise into your schedule. The nerve of that person!

Without a doubt- it is a challenge to add exercise in the mix. Personally, this summer, I have changed my exercise schedule to rise at 5:15am, take care of the pets, and then head out to exercise. It is hard especially since it is darker in the morning. Am I successful every morning? Not a chance. Is each workout the best in my life? Not a chance. I give myself a pat on the back for just doing something. And I am getting better.

We are bombarded with so much in our lives- it is important to find a balance. It is important to take time for you so you are the best that you can be for your family and friends. Many times we are so busy taking care of everything else that we forget to take care of ourselves. Several years ago, I was drawn to yoga because it encompassed so much besides just exercise: it offered breathing techniques, meditation, relaxation and a quiet insight to one’s own spirituality. Not only did it help with stress but it helped me keep the craziness of life in perspective. It helped keep the balance in my life when I felt things were getting unmanageable.  And, I felt myself getting stronger with less aches and pains.

One of the most wonderful things about yoga is that it is something you can do for a lifetime. And it is never too late to start. Namaste.
